Giorgio Mattia (44 years old) was sent to Iraq in April 2006. For the VeteranDocs he tells the story of how he witnessed in Nassiriya the second tragic attack to the Italian Army which followed the one occured in 2003.
Lieutenant Colonel Giorgio Mattia was appointed as an Officer of the Italian Air Force in 1992 after attending the Air War School in Florence. He spent his first five years at a department of information systems in Rome, then in 1997 he was transferred to the 46th Air Brigade of Pisa. With this Brigade he has participated in numerous national and international missions, including Kosovo, the Balkans and Iraq. In Nassiriya, Iraq he witnessed the tragic attack on the Italian Army.
Among his various qualifications in 2010 he acquired the title of Public Affairs Officer by the NATO School in Oberammergau (Monaco of Bavaria). Mattia is currently Commander of Support Services Logistic Brigade-Operation.
